Speech and Drama

Drama is offered as a timetabled subject and helps pupils enhance their self-esteem and promotes self-confidence. All pupils in Grades 1 – 7 participate in Speech and Drama classes held in our well-equipped Drama studio in the Carol Arts & Media Centre.  Seeing how pupils flock with happy and carefree hearts into this Centre shows what a positive impact this dynamic space offers.

For those children wishing to extend their drama skills, an extra-curricular drama group, Spotlight Drama, is offered to Grade 1 – 7 pupils.  The Spotlight Drama Group’s annual Showcase Evening presents a wonderful celebration of song, dance and drama prepared throughout the year during our lessons.

Drama students also have the opportunity of entering the Trinity College, London Speech & Drama Examinations and Eisteddfods. There are also opportunities for Grade 4 – 7 pupils to audition for school productions, held every second year.  These productions also provide an opportunity for the less dramatic to help out with backstage duties.

Our 2014 production of the C S Lewis classic The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe had an astounding 23 nominations and 11 major awards, including Junior Show of the Year, at the annual Showtime awards ceremony.  In 2016 we are thrilled to be presenting The Wizard of Oz.
