The disciplined expression of emotion is perhaps one of the most difficult things to teach our children, and one of the most lacking features of our society. Music offers a solution to this. It plays a vital role in the development of a child.
Our pupils enjoy a vibrant class music program within the school curriculum. In these lessons they have the opportunity to explore the rudiments of music with a variety of resources, from their own voices to instruments and iPads.
Children can play a wide range of musical instruments and take regular music exams. At St George’s individual tuition is offered in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, violin, cello, recorder, piano, percussion and bass guitar.
A team comprising five permanent and one part time staff teach all the instruments on offer. As a useful learning and benchmark tool, our pupils have the opportunity to be entered for the Trinity College and The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations.
St George’s Prep has a Junior Band, a Senior Band, a String Ensemble and a Choir. Parents are treated to many concerts and musical productions throughout the year. These create ample performance opportunities for the children.
