Letter from the Campus Head

1 August 2019

Dear St George’s Family

We have recently returned from a very successful Derby weekend with Oakhill Prep School in Knysna and would like to thank all our staff, parents and children whom whole-heartedly supported the weekend.  It was a real treat to see all our boys and girls in their red, whites and blues competing in a number of sports codes from our youngest Under 9’s to our oldest Senior Preppies. Simola Hotel was abuzz on Friday evening and we would like to thank our hosts, Oakhill, for arranging such wonderful accommodation for our staff.  I have a feeling all the staff will volunteer to join this trip next year.

Weekends like this present so many wonderful opportunities for our children.  Firstly, they are able to apply the skills learnt during practises during the matches, in a controlled competitive environment, and can either celebrate their successes or learn from their shortcomings. We certainly were exceptionally proud of all of our pupils and the results achieved over a weekend like this.  The friendships gained from previous trips are often rekindled and it is these friendships that continue well into adult life.  Our boys and girls may experience being hosted in another family’s home for the first time and obviously this greatly helps them with their social development in a safe and nurturing environment.  We are very grateful to all the Oakhill families and Staff who so graciously open their homes to our children.  It is also at times like this when the camaraderie of our entire community is seen at its best as all are united in support of our wonderful boys and girls. I really was so pleased to share with the pupils on Monday morning the outpour of compliments I received from the Oakhill families and Staff who were beyond impressed with the wonderful manners and behaviour of many of our pupils.  Needless to say we are all exceptionally proud of our boys and girls and certainly not surprised!

We look forward to welcoming back the Grade 7 Class of 2014 here on Friday night for their reunion that will be hosted in the Carol Arts and Media Centre and wish them all a wonderful evening of catching up and a chance to reminisce with fellow past pupils and teachers about the “Good Old Days!”

May you all have a restful weekend and enjoy the time you have together!

Kind regards

Pete and Lucy McNaughton introduce their twin daughters, Olivia Lyn and Lexi Diana McNaughton to St George’s.

SECOND HAND CLOTHING SHOP VOLUNTEER NEEDED

An opportunity has arisen for parent volunteers to assist our two current parents in our 2nd Hand Clothing Shop.  This would be one day per week either on a Wednesday from 12h30 to 14h00 or on a Thursday from 07h30 to 08h30.

As an additional service to our families at the School, we offer a gently worn clothing shop which we rely on parent volunteers to run.  Proceeds from the sale of clothing is given back to our Library to purchase books benefiting all our children.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be activity involved in our school.

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Ms Pattison, the Prep Secretary on 041 585 4825 or by email prep@stgeorges.co.za as soon as possible.

Bicycle Wanted

Our wonderful security guard at the front gate, Bruce, who has joined our school recently is in desperate need of a bike to help him with transport to and from school every day. Bruce lives in Shauderville and walks 1h40 minutes to and from school to make sure that our boys and girls are kept safe and sound. We are asking any families that may have a bike at home which they are willing to donate to please make contact with Mr Stamper on a.stamper@stgeorges.co.za
